P2 Unit 28

User Side Factors

Download Speed
If the user doesn’t have a good enough downloading speed, web pages may fail to load all content or won’t load up as quick and things like videos and pictures will take a lot longer to load,

Browser
Some Internet browsers don’t support file types used in websites this causes errors when loading the website using a popular browser may fix this or there maybe be third party software needed like flash player as most videos wont play without it installed

Cache Memory
This helps to load different website pages that are visited more often than others. If the user visits a lot of pages it is a good idea to configure a higher cache memory capacity, which is in the browser settings.

Processor Speed
If the user doesn’t have a very good processor, web pages will take considerably longer to load up and show content due to the amount of calculations made per second. A better processor would make web pages load faster even if they contain images and videos.

Server Side Factors:

Available Bandwidth
The bigger the bandwidth the better as the bandwidth is what allows you to have more viewers looks at the site. If you have a large bandwidth you can have a lot of people watch videos as videos take up a lot of bandwidth. Bandwidth can determine how much you can download at the same time

Having a higher bandwidth you can download more data in the same amount of time. Even if you have a high speed Internet and a low bandwidth it will still be restricted to a slow download speed.

Executions to be performed before Page Load
Before the web page is fully loads different parts of the page must be loaded first. Like the head, this hosts the CSS and JavaScript, and then the body. This is why a web page that loads slowly or has a lot of contents will only display the background and colors at first and it will show the foundations. Then followed by the body, which holds information.

Number of Hits
The number of hits on a web page is basically the number of requests sent by a user's computer to the server hosting the web page. While it does not tell you the exact number of people using the web page and how many people have visited the site this is a good way of keeping track of how your website is doing as the more people use it the slower it will get and if to many people are on the website it will crash

File Types
certain browsers will not be able to show certain file formats, sometimes there are problems with not being able to view images, videos and audio this is due to the user. It depends on the server side factor as the web page creator has to choose what file types they use.

Bitmap is a way in which an image is created its called bitmap is small pixels which go together to form an image many people use this as they can do small details to images such as shading as there is a range of color with it. Saving a bitmap image takes up a lot of space due to the fact it saves each pixel bit by bit. Paint uses bitmap this is why when you enlarge an image in paint it becomes pixilated.

JPEG has an even larger color palette and is better for high colored images. Both JPEG and GIF mean shading can be done to perfection as well as the detail on the image

Vector is much smaller in memory compared to bitmap as it saves images in chunks, it makes images with lines and shapes this makes the image more simple but when it comes to save it doesn't take up much memory. Microsoft word uses vector this is why when you enlarge an image in word it doesn't become pixilated. Vector is often used to create logos, as logos often need to be re-sized

MP3 is a type of music in the way it is stored, its a good one to use because it doesn't take up much space as its compressed and small.

AVI is a type of video. Its a windows based application and it doesn't use up a lot of memory. It's advised to use AVI instead of SWF as it takes up less memory. The fuller the memory the slower the system
